Al-Ahsa boasts a breathtaking expanse of 2.5 million palm trees that are sure to leave you in awe. But that's not all - this region is steeped in a rich history that has earned it a spot on the prestigious UNESCO Heritage list.

Al-Ahsa beckons travelers with its rich history, vibrant culture, and breathtaking landscapes. Al Ahsa is no wonder, a beautiful blend of natural and cultural wonders that travelers must visit while spending a day in Al Ahsa.

Al Qarah - Natural Wonder in Al Ahsa

Al Qarah caves are one of the natural wonders of Al Ahsa and a must-visit attraction for nature fans. These spectacular caves are also known as the 'Mountains of Whistling Wind', as the wind seems to whistle when it crosses these mountains. Al Qarah mountain stands as evidence of ancient settlements dating back to 5,000 BC. Al Qarah mountain stands about 75 meters high with a maximum elevation of 225 m above sea level.

Al Qarah caves are located a short drive away from Hofuf city. Wander through the caves for an unforgettable experience. Visitors can witness magnificent formations and shapes naturally created by the process of water erosion. As soon as you step into the cave, a cool and dark environment will welcome you, providing a perfect escape from the outside heat, making it a perfect destination for a honeymoon in Saudi Arabia.  The mountains are located 33 km from Riyadh; one can reach Al Hofuf by taking flights and then hire a cab to reach the mountain.

Dougha Handmade Pottery Factory

Immerse yourself in the captivating artistry of Al Ahsa at Dougha handmade Pottery Factory. A local pottery business, run for generations, is thriving as the potters enthusiastically continue their forefathers' legacy. The famous Dougha family Al-Gharash has been running the factory for ages, passing down ancient business from generation to generation. The open-air factory is free to enter and showcases hundreds of heritage pieces made of mud. The ancient factory houses rows of upturned pots made with mud using the same traditional methods used for centuries.

Visitors can buy any handmade pottery piece as a special souvenir to take home and also can take the wheel to create something of their own. As the factory is nestled in one of the Al Qarah's caverns, the cool surroundings of the caves keep this factory a nice place to visit.

Jawatha Mosque - A Historical Oasis

As you are on your way to explore Al Ahsa, don't miss to visit Jawatha Mosque. A historical gem that was built in the 7th century, reflecting the cultural and religious heritage. Visitors can immerse themselves in the beauty of the arches - a symbol of Islamic architecture, intricate patterns, carved stonework, and inscriptions representing the fascinating history of the mosque.

The mosque was built by the Bani Abd al-Qays tribe and is believed to be the first mosque developed in the eastern province of the KSA. While most of the original structure had been lost before the renovation process. This mosque is believed to be the mosque that holds a second Friday congregation, the first was held at the Masjid Al-Nabawi in Madinah. It is also narrated that when Hajr al-Aswad was stolen, it was purportedly kept in this mosque.

Ibrahim Palace - An Architectural Masterpiece

The centuries-old palace is a historic fort, also called the Dome Palace, which served as a Turkish military base before being overtaken by King Abdul-Aziz Al Saud. The palace was constructed in 1555 with a big dome. The palace, with its breathtaking structure, is a must-see tourist attraction. The palace was renamed after an architect, Ibrahim bin Afysan, who renovated the entire structure in 1801. The palace covers an area of more than 16,500 square meters, offering a blend of modern and Islamic architectural styles.

Nestled in the center of the palace is Al-Quba Mosque, with a single dome that sits on the entire roof of the building. The palace also houses a small museum containing various artifacts and photographs. The walls of the palace were made of mud combined with straw, and the ceilings of the palace were made of trunks of palm trees, sandalwood, and stones.

Souq Al Qaisariya - A Historical Market Place
